Bethany lost her first tooth yesterday. It's been loose for quite a while, but she's been a little protective of it, and wouldn't let me wiggle it much. I've settled for wiggling it as much as I can when I floss her teeth at night, and last night it finally came out. She was little freaked out by the blood, until I told her that it was okay, and teeth always bled a little when they came out.
We talked a lot about the tooth fairy, telling her that she'd come in the night to take her tooth away and bring her some money. At first she thought the tooth fairy was going to take the new, adult tooth away. We put her tooth in an envelope and told her to go to sleep.
In the morning, I found her sitting on the couch, rather forlornly holding the envelope that the "tooth fairy" brought during the night. It had a short note and two dollars inside. She hadn't opened it yet. I asked her what was wrong, and she started to cry. She thought she was going to get to see the tooth fairy, and was crying that she didn't get to talk to her. It took most of the morning to calm her down. I even considered asking Brenda or someone to call and talk to her, pretending to be the tooth fairy, but I decided to not promote the fantasy any more than it needed to be.
She was also sad when she saw how much money she got. She said two was not much money. But she wanted to leave right away and go buy a "swushie" (slushie) with her money. She was excited to be able to give her dollars to the "swushie man".
