Bethany's Bucket List

Ever since we moved to Colorado Springs, Bethany's been forming her own bucket list--things she tells me she wants to do someday.

It all started when we visited the Academy for a Fall Picnic, only a few days after we'd arrived. As part of the picnic, there were parachuters that came down trailing clouds of colored smoke. She was absolutely fascinated, and decided right then and there that she wanted to jump out of an airplane someday. I told her she'd have to wait until she was a lot older, and that there was no way I was coming with her.

Later in the same picnic, we saw an airplane pulling a glider. You see this all the time at the Academy--it's one of their training programs--but this was the first time we'd seen anything like it. Regular motored planes tow unpowered gliders high in the air, then release them. Bethany was likewise enthralled with these. She declared that she was going to fly an airplane sometime. From then on, her list grew. Here are a few of the things she's told me about:

parachute from a plane
fly an airplane
ride on a train
drive a train
be a schoolteacher (due to her awesome 1st grade teacher)
have a son and name him Jack

I'd like to encourage her to make goals and strive for them, so I haven't said anything one way or the other about these things. We'll see how long the desire persists.
