A couple people asked to see pictures of the cake I made for Sean's birthday, so here they are. It didn't turn out quite the way I'd imagined it, but it was good enough. I did cop out on the tow cables and the tires. It was really late at night (2:00am), and I just didn't feel like making them out of fondant, so I used yarn for the cable. The next morning I sent Nate for chocolate donuts that I used for the wheels.
The large rods in the back for the tow cables were pretzle rods covered in chocolate. Everything else was fondant. I don't really think fondant is my thing. Maybe I need to take some classes or something in it.
The base cake. The edges of the the truck bed and engine are little slices of cake.
Here are two of the pretzle rods. I didn't want a flat side when the chocolate cooled, so I hung them from my kitchen cupboard.
And here's the finished product. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of Sean with the cake. We had some friends over to barbeque for his birthday, and we were outside when we sang to him and cut the cake. The wind was blowing so hard, it was blowing out the candles before we could sing. So I spent the whole time holding the lighter on the candles while we sang, and didn't get any pictures. Oh well. He really liked the cake.
